Creating moments from Tornedalen

Arktisk Keramik
A piece of Norrland in your home
Welcome to Arktisk Keramik – one of the northernmost ceramic workshops in Europe. Driven by passion and admiration for meticulous craftsmanship, we specialise in creating exquisitely designed ceramics, such as tableware, interior details, and jewellery. Our artworks are not just ceramic objects, but also moments – moments created in Tornedalen, moments we want to share with you. Norrland captivates with its rawness, breathtaking contrasts, and natural beauty. Our goal is to capture its essence in our designs and encourage you to fall in love with it, just as we have.
Straight from the kiln to our shelves – ready to be purchased.

Our process
A careful and multifaceted process, in which every step is essential, is what makes our products unique. Some stages require extra time and precision – patience and good planning are therefore key.

Design
Our products are directly inspired by the beautiful Arctic nature, its dynamics, and its constant change.

Forming
Each product is unique, hand-built or thrown on the wheel. The small variations that arise give each piece its own charm and reflect the authenticity of the craftsmanship.

Decorating
A slow and careful drying process is essential for the final form of the product. When the ware is leather-hard, we decorate each piece by hand. It undergoes a first quality check and small improvements are made.

Bisquit firing
Before firing, each product is carefully checked and any small adjustments are made. The bisque firing is the first firing, during which the clay is transformed into ceramic and gains its hardness. This part of the process takes three days.

Glazing
Glazing is often the most intense stage. A lot can go wrong, so timing, technique, and precision are essential.

Glaze firing
Glaze firing is the most unpredictable stage of the process. This is where the final effect is created, and every firing can vary even with the same glazes.

Polishing
The final touch on every unique piece.
